Welcome to the
home page of Confederate Naval History featuring my CDs and books
detailing the fascinating history of the Confederate States Navy during
the American Civil War.
I have been studying and writing for
more than fifteen years about the Southern naval experience during
the war. As a result of this effort you will find here books and CDs
about Southern cruisers, ironclads, gunboats, torpedo boats, submarines,
and the valiant men who served on them.
Included are the accounts of Admiral
Franklin Buchanan and the CSS Virginia, the Virginia's
battle with the USS Monitor, Raphael Semmes and the CSS Alabama,
John N. Maffitt and the CSS Florida, the around the world cruise
of the CSS Shenandoah, the construction and operation of the
ironclads Arkansas, Albemarle, Tennessee, and much, much more.
Also covered are the Confederate privateers, blockade runners, and
the Confederate Naval Academy. The CD, Confederate Navy Data,
includes biographical data from the Register of Officers of the
Confederate States Navy, 1861-1865 and a register of all known
Southern vessels from the Dictionary of American Fighting Ships.
These registers are word and phrase searchable.
